Client Rights and Choice

Consumers receiving Supportive Living Services (SLS) have the right to make decisions that shape the nature and quality of their lives in alignment with their personal preferences and the goals outlined in their Individual Program Plan (IPP). These rights are designed to promote independence, dignity, and active participation in their care. These rights shall consist of the following, without being restricted to:

• Deciding who to live with and where to reside;
• Regulating the environment's appearance and character within their house;
• Selecting and altering their direct service employees and SLS providers;
• Actively engaging in the IPP process to ensure that their wants and preferences are taken into account when determining the SLS they receive;
• Getting services that are suitable for their changing requirements and preferences for assistance without having to leave their chosen home, as long as SLS is still the preferred goal as decided in the consumer's IPP process, and
• Letting the regional center know how happy they are with the services they are getting and requesting that the information be considered when the regional center periodically assesses the SLS vendor's performance in accordance with Section 58671(c).
